Best DJ Headphones

Besides offering you an easy means to cue and monitor your mix, headphones provide you much of your image as a DJ. Since their purpose is more aesthetic than practical, you might decide to cut a lot of corners to find the best DJ headphones.

Picking a pair of DJ headphones can be a difficult thing to do. We have put together a list of the best DJ headphones to help you.

A Quick Look at the Best DJ Headphones

Some of the top DJ headphones have good individual features, such as the fact that the Beats by Dre headphones (our #1 headphones) make your whole body feel the bass of your music.

This article also includes two honorable mentions: the retro looking AKG K 240s, and the comfortable carpet-padded Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 250 ohms headphones.

A top-seller, the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 headphones stick out as a customer favorite. However, if you are looking for headphones with durability to last through just about anything, you will want to pick the V-MODA Crossfade LP.

To help with your upcoming headphone purchase, we have also included detailed reviews of some of the best headphones below.

Beats Pro Over-Ear Wired Headphones

Price Durability Overall
★★★½ ★★★★½ ★★★★★

The best DJ headphones will come at a pretty high cost, but if you want headphones that will serve well for more than just DJing, these might be the best choice for you. The Beats by Dr. Dre headphones really are the best headphones you can get on the market.

If you want the best it takes a little bit of sacrifice, but you will not look back after purchasing a pair of Beats. The Beats Pro are also crafted with metal, making them a very durable pair of headphones.

The only major drawback about these headphones, of course, is the price.

Pros Cons
You can really feel the bass. Big and not foldable.
Durable, and comes with a nice case. Can be heavy around your neck.
Comfortable for hours. Expensive.

V-MODA Crossfade LP

Price Durability Overall
★★★★ ★★★★★ ★★★★★

Our second-best DJ headphones, and for extremely good reason. The V-MODA Crossfade LP headphones may not look like much, but they offer top quality durability, comfort, and sound quality.

These headphones offer top quality specifications for a fairly decent price, but having things like a Kevlar reinforced frame does make the price go up a tad.

Pros Cons
Extremely durable Kevlar construction. Not entirely attractive.
Parts are easily replaceable/fixed (if broken). A tad expensive.
Memory foam ear cushions. Some minor parts can’t be replaced.

Audio-Technica ATH-M50X

Price Durability Overall
★★★★ ★★★ ★★★★

The ATH-M50X is a top seller, and if you learn a little more about them you can easily learn why. With their reasonable price, decent construction and sound quality, many DJs love using headphones like these for cueing and monitoring their mixes.

The bass boosting feature of these headphones comes in handy whenever you need to hear a bassline in your headphones over a crowd people dancing. Their 90 degree swiveling cups are also useful for DJs who like having one ear in their headphones, and one ear on the crowd.

Pros Cons
Decently priced. Headphone padding can rip easily.
Pretty good sound-quality. Height adjustment is hard to use.
Attractive design with bass boosting. Plastic composition.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 250 ohms Headphones

Price Durability Overall
★★★★ ★★★ ★★★★

These ones didn’t make our top 10 list, but would have been easily included in the honorable mention. The Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 250 ohms headphones are a great alternative to the Audio-Technica brand, and offer more comfort and power than their headphones.

With 250 ohms of power, you almost have a mini-speaker for your ears to listen to. Just make sure to keep the volume down, or you won’t notice how comfortable they feel after wearing them for several hours.

Pros Cons
Very comfortable. Headphones are a little big around the ears.
Lots of power. Not entirely durable, and needs careful use.
Quality sound. The power can harm your ears if used wrong.

AKG K 240 Semi-Open Studio Headphones

Price Durability Overall
★★★★★ ★★ ★★½

These ones just missed the cut of our top 10 DJ headphones list, but might still be preferred by many DJs looking for a reasonably priced pair of headphones. The AKG K 240 headphones offer a unique retro look while providing decent sound quality.

The only thing that is a big drawback about these headphones is the two wires on the top. Let’s be honest, unless you were to carry these in a case, those wires can get tangled and stuck on your equipment until they break either the equipment or the headphones themselves.

Something like this of course could be a pretty big DJ fail, were it to happen to you.

Pros Cons
Reasonable price. Metal frame can tangle and break other things.
Decent sound-quality. Spot for resting on your head can break easily.
Attractive, retro look. Retro look will not be appreciated by everyone.
